About
About me
My name is Carl-Johan Larsson, and I do FinTech.
That’s it—short and sweet. That’s what I do, and that’s who I am.
A very long time ago, I started out as a software developer and spent years writing code. Eventually, I realized there are people way smarter than me for that, so now I just take credit for other people’s work (Im not kidding, I really do). These days, I focus on advising people on how to start or scale their FinTech business. Since so much of this revolves around technology, I still consider myself a techie (though a real techie might not agree).
I’ve been working in FinTech since the early 2010s, learning and evolving alongside this fast-paced industry—and what a journey it has been. Since 2014, I’ve been a Partner at Velmie (https://velmie.com), doing what I love and getting paid for it (not bad, right?).
Over the years, I’ve built a strong global network of friends in areas like BAAS, card issuing, KYC, and beyond (if you know, you know). These friendships are the backbone of my success—because in FinTech, if you don’t have good friends, you’re smoked.
Why I have this website
Like many others who work in a field they love, I tend to collect a lot of information. To make sense of it all, it needs to be structured in some way. This website is my attempt to organize (and share).
How this website is structured
The core of this website is a wiki that contains information about companies, events, and other key topics in the FinTech space. I’ve also included a list of acronyms that are useful to know in the industry. Alongside the wiki, I write articles about things that interest me, and you’ll also find episodes of my webcast here.
How I maintain this website
When I feel like it and how I feel like it. This is not a professional project in any way, so, it is what it is. This website is fairly new, and I haven’t been able to move all the material I have produced here yet. However, it will end up here as this is a work in progress.
Sponsored content
I don’t do sponsored content. Note: in the past, I have written articles that are about companies I work with (in one way or another, this is a fairly small industry), and this will ofc happen again. When this has happened, and when it will happen, you will see a big banner on the articles stating how I am affiliated with the company, it is very important to me that you, dear reader, get the best information possible, information that is not tainted by any undo influence.
Core values
It’s important to me that you know why I’m in FinTech, because if you know that, you can better understand the world (I know, a bit grand, but it is what it is).
I do FinTech because I’m an anarchist. That doesn’t mean that I were black clothes and protest the NY stock exchange (those people have no clue what they are doing).
That means I don’t think there should be central banks.
That means I don’t think that we should have the type of rules and regulations we have.
That means that I strongly believe that the only reason we have a financial environment the way we do, is because a lot of old men want to make sure that they and their friends maintain control over our lives.
Who this website is for
If you are in FinTech (located anywhere in the world), then this is for you.
